Bus Rapid Transit

It is spreading from South America and China throughout the world. Rail is out, buses are in. So it's not exactly a mystery why other cities, and other transit agencies, would like to emulate the success in South America and China.
"Some people give up their designs when they have almost reached their goal;
while others, on the contrary, obtain a victory by exerting,
at the last moment, more vigorous efforts than before."
Some in the transit industry already are aware. How about bus drivers and riders? They all seem to have been smacked with what they apparently think is a very clever idea, Why spend the money on rail, when you can just take a bus ... and call it a train?

The buses, are adding trailers or tandems, depending on the population. For Honolulu it would be enough to replace the Express 91, 92, 93 and 94 buses with articulated (one tandem) buses. The #42 (articulated) to Ewa Beach, the "A" to Waipahu and the "C" to Makaha had proven their worth. Just add articulate buses to the #40 and we got it made in the shade.

They were already proving a success in Honolulu, some people were actually getting off their cars and riding them to town, but the Rail People couldn't stand it. The city was
ordered to cut back on the buses with the resulting disaster that we have now.

This seems to be a lot of what's happening in the current promotion of "Bus Rapid Transit" – "BRT" – on the Mainland spearheaded by the US Federal Transit Administration (FTA), whose "BRT" marketing website has carried the resounding slogan "Think Rail, Use Buses".

The Bi-Articulated (two tandem) bus could be ready to replace any of the articulated buses getting standing room only. Now you have people off their cars, streets and highways and onto public transportation. These facts are going through the world right now. But somebody is keeping it a secret from Oahu residents. Da Big Bucks!

Pub's Side Note: No one on Oahu seems to know that Inouye could have gotten the money from FTA much easier for buses than for a useless rail. But he is getting old and his friends gotta make da bucks. And Inouye has denied his involvement with John White, the PRP and their dirty methods.
